Dear Parents / Guardians,
We have a very busy few weeks coming up so we are writing to inform you of all school activities. On Thursday the 23rd of March many pupils will be taking part in the regional Eisteddfod held this year in Cwm Rhymni. A bus will take the pupils to Cwm Rhymni from Gwent Is Coed. Parents can collect their children and take them home when they have finished competing from Cwm Rhymni. There will not be a bus going back to Gwent Is Coed. The Eisteddfod starts at 15.30 and you are welcome to come and support. We are co-ordinating a transition event for pupils during the week following the Eisteddfod. This will be on the morning of Friday the 31st of March. During the same week we have a Parents’ evening on Thursday the 30th of March. It will start at 16.00 and finish at 18.30. In order to be able to see as many staff as possible we will hold the event in the hall of Bro Teyrnon and would ask that you prioritise subjects where you have a concern. Once again we will ask if you will attend the early, middle or late session and will ensure that a cup of coffee or tea is available for you. We hope that the school Welfare officer and Community Police officer are also able to attend so that you can ask questions or chat to them. Can we remind you about the one-way system on Brynglas Drive and that the new school car park as well as the school yard will be available to park cars? Term ends at 15.00 on Friday the 7/4/17. The new term starts on Monday the 24th of April. Practically straight after Easter the National Literacy and Numeracy tests will be held and it is very important that your child is in school for these tests. We will be working with the pupils to accustom them to the arrangements and will give them a list of equipment that they will need, such as a calculator, pencils, black biro. Pupils are not allowed to have a mobile phone in an examination room and therefore we will have to make arrangements to collect these at the start of the examination session. Tests will be held in our classrooms and apart from the day of familiarisation, all tests will be first thing in the morning. Monday 24/4/17 Familiarisation with seating and arrangements for each test. All day, interspersed with Well-being sessions and “Cymreictod” sessions. Thursday 27/4/17 Mathematics procedural Morning starting at about 9am and finishing at 10am. To celebrate and appreciate the preparation for the Urdd Eisteddfod we will hold our own Eisteddfod on Monday the 19th of June. Diolch am eich cefnogaeth, Dear Parents / Guardian, The MET office has issued a be aware warning for South East Wales, for snow, over the next few days. If there is severe snow then you should visit the Newport council website to see if the school is open or closed. Up to date information will be on the council website by 8 o’clock in the morning. We will also post this on the Gwent Is Coed website and on our Twitter Account. If there is no message on the website – the school will be open, even if there is some snow. Many thanks for your continued support, Yn gywir, Rhian Dafydd Pennaeth / Headteacher Gwent.iscoed@newport.gov.uk
