Good morning,

It has been lovely to welcome our learners back this week after the holidays and to get to know our new learners in year 7. We have had a very successful week despite the bad weather on Wednesday!!

Thank you all for ensuring that your children have come to school wearing the correct uniform which is essential for us at Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed. They look very smart and there is a sense of belonging and pride in the school. We all need to continue to work together to ensure that this positivity continues. Here is a link for the school uniform Gwisg Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed (3).pdf

We are extremely proud of all our GCSE and A Level students who achieved very good results in the summer. 37% of all A levels were A*-A with 81% A*-C. All students who applied to go to university were able to go to their first choice university with many attending Russell Group universities. Congratulations to all of them.

We also wish last year's Year 11 learners who have chosen to go to college or to complete an apprenticeship all the best for the future. We are very confident that they’ll make a positive impression and then go on to follow successful career paths. A significant number of them have come back to us for Year 12 and we look forward to seeing them grow and thrive with us at the school.

We are very fortunate to be able to welcome new members of staff to the school;

● Anna Davies - English

● Lowri Green - Welsh

● Anais Walsh - Science and Mathematics

● Dan O’Sullivan - Mathematics

● Seren Ball - Teaching Assistant

● Jack Ellison - Teaching Assistant

Equipment

Learners are expected to bring appropriate stationery equipment to school and their pencil cases should

include: black pens, red pen, pencil, ruler and rubber. Learners are not allowed to bring "Tipp-Ex".

Learners should also bring a water bottle to school.

Mobile phones

I would like to thank you for your support as we continue to implement our mobile phone policy. Learners are not allowed to use their phones at all during the school day and they should be in their bags at all times. If they need to call they can ask for permission from a member of staff. If a learner refuses to comply we will keep the phone in the office until the end of the school day.

Cost of living

A grant is available for the purchase of school uniforms and resources. Here is the link School Essentials Grant: help with school costs | GOV.WALES

If you think that you are eligible for Free School Meals, an application can be made by filling in the form below. This is essential for Year 7 parents as secondary school lunches are not free (unlike Primary Schools).

School website

Our new school website is constantly updated so all current information about the school can be found on

Thank you for your continued support as we look forward to another successful year.

Kind regards,

Mrs Eirian Jones
